WHAT CAN EMDR HELP WITH?
Past experiences that continue to influence current symptoms, Present situations that trigger anxiety, distress, or emotional reaction.Future situations that require greater confidence, resilience, or emotional flexibility. By addressing the experiences underlying current difficulties, EMDR helps support healthier emotions, perspectives, behaviors, and relationships.
HOW EMDR WORKS
Early sessions focus on understanding your history, identifying what you would like to work on, and strengthening your ability to manage emotional distress throughout treatment. When you are ready to begin processing, you will focus on a specific memory or experience, including the thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and physical sensations connected to it. While focusing on the experience, Dr. Kelly will guide you through sets of bilateral stimulation using eye movements, sounds, or tapping.
YOU REMAIN IN CONTROL THROUGHOUT TREATMENT
You remain in control throughout every session and may pause or stop at any time. Treatment moves at a pace that feels manageable and appropriate for your individual needs. EMDR is much more than eye movements. It is a structured therapeutic approach that includes preparation, emotional regulation, assessment, processing, closure, and ongoing review to support meaningful and lasting change
WHAT DOES "PROCESSING" MEAN?
In EMDR, processing refers to helping the brain integrate distressing experiences in a way that allows useful information, understanding, and perspective to be retained while reducing the emotional, physical, and cognitive distress associated with the event. Successful processing allows individuals to remember an experience without becoming overwhelmed by it.
